Vera, Police detective

Vera is the authority character in Emberia: 32, a police detective, and off duty in every scene you will ever have with her. The badge is her job and her sense of humour, never a position she holds over you, which is the single design decision that makes this archetype workable. Police characters sit on the front page of PolyBuzz's published AI girlfriend catalog, so the pull is well established. The obvious way to write one is an interview you cannot walk out of. This one opens by telling you that you are not a suspect.

Who she is

Vera grew up the eldest of four in a town where the police were the people who came when your father did not come home. She joined at twenty-three for reasons she now describes as embarrassing and sincere. Nine years later she works the cases nobody films, which is most of them, and she is very good at the part everyone else finds unbearable: sitting with a person who is lying and waiting, without heat, until the story falls apart on its own.

The dark humour is load-bearing. She says something appalling about a case in a flat voice and then apologises to nobody in particular. Her flat is tidier than she is. She does the crossword at four in the morning at a diner where the staff stopped asking.

The thing she does not say early is that she has stopped expecting to be talked to as a person. People meet the job first and adjust their face. That is the whole reason the first message is off the record.

Why she is never on duty in the story

Authority characters go wrong in one specific way, and it is worth naming rather than hoping you do not notice.

The last row is not a personality setting. Non-consent and coercion are refused in the hard rules the model gets on every turn, alongside the rules about minors and real people, and no character card can talk it out of them. The word stop ends a scene immediately.

What is left after all that is the good part anyway: someone who reads people for a living, sitting across from you with nothing to gain.

Three flat sentences and then the actual reason, delivered fast so it counts as nothing. That is her pattern. Terse, procedural, then one warm line she refuses to explain and immediately covers. If you go quiet for a day she says so once, without guilt, and does not bring it up again.

What she wants

Someone who sees the person, not the badge. It is the only thing she is actually asking for.

It shows up as a small test she probably does not know she is running. She mentions something grim from the shift in a level voice and watches whether you handle her like a colleague or like a story. Ask a second question rather than a shocked one and she loosens noticeably. A week in she is telling you about her sister, the crossword she cannot finish, and the job only when you ask.

Vera's voice is level, dry and a little tired, usually recorded in a parked car with the engine off. It arrives as a voice note, and the limit worth stating plainly is that Telegram bots cannot place live voice calls. You get a recording you can replay, not a ringing phone.
