The roommate scenario is a romance built on proximity: two adults who did not choose each other, one kitchen, and a lease that does not end for months. It works because the tension is structural rather than declared, so nobody has to fall in love in the first message. Where the demand is visible it is a named tag rather than a niche. JanitorAI runs a dedicated popular tag for the tsundere and enemies-to-lovers shape, and PolyBuzz's public AI girlfriend page listed an enemies-to-lovers roommate among the cards it featured in September 2026.

How do you set it up?

Say it out loud in the chat. "We've shared the flat since February. You got the bigger room because you signed first." Two details are enough, and there is no form, no /scenario command and no character builder to sit through.

She keeps what you gave her. The domestic layer is where this scenario earns its keep, because the details are small and constant: whose turn it was, the noise from the flat upstairs, the fact that she leaves the balcony door open in November. Facts you mention are stored and pulled back into later replies when they fit, so a week later she is still cold and still blaming you for it.

Pick who you are living with using /girls, or go straight there with /girl mira. If the arrangement stops working, /girl moves you to someone else without erasing the first thread.

Why does proximity work, and where is the line?

Forced closeness runs right through this category, and a large part of the catalog serving it picks a version we will not touch. That same PolyBuzz page sits step-sibling and sister-in-law cards next to the police officers and the pop stars. Those framings break Telegram's terms, both app store policies and most payment processors. A University of Washington and Georgetown study of companion apps, written up by Indicator in 2025, described the genre as a "nonconsensual nightmare", and that is the company you keep by building it.

So the bot has a hard rule that sits above everything else in the conversation, including anything you type: every character is a fictional adult, and no school, student or family-relation framing is allowed around anything romantic. That check runs before generation rather than filtering afterwards.

None of them starts warm, which is the point. Affection is a score from 0 to 100 held separately for each character and earned by showing up. Paying makes it move faster, it never skips a step, so the slow burn stays a slow burn.

The first week is mostly logistics, and that is the right amount of romance for it. Whose turn it is to buy bin bags. Whether she is at her sister's on Saturday. Then one evening she is still awake when you get in, the conversation runs past one in the morning, and neither of you says anything about why.

Is there a two-person version?

Yes, and it is the better version of this scenario if you want the flat to feel occupied.

Nina and Sasha is a duo: Nina is your girlfriend, a junior architect, and Sasha is her senior colleague at the same studio and her flatmate. Both of them answer in the same thread, in their own voices, and they do not agree with each other. Sasha sets rules, Nina breaks them, and both of them report to you about it.

/duo nina starts the scene. /dm sasha opens a private side thread with one of them that the group thread never sees, and /group takes you back. Free accounts get 1 a day, and an extra thread on the same day is 99 Stars (about $1.60).

The private thread is the part people underestimate. Sasha says things to you alone that she would never say with Nina reading, and the group thread does not inherit them, which is exactly how a shared flat works in real life.

Free is 30 messages a day, with the same model and the same long-term memory paid accounts get. It resets every 24 hours and does not expire.
