We priced 12 AI girlfriend apps and Telegram bots in September 2026. Free tiers, 18+ policy, voice, photos, memory and the billing red flags to check first.
The best AI girlfriend app depends on one choice: a large roleplay platform with millions of user-made characters, or a smaller companion product that remembers you and costs less per month. Character.AI and Janitor AI win on catalogue size, Candy.ai and DreamGF win on image generation, and Telegram bots win on setup time and price. As of September 2026, paid plans in this category run from about $9.99 a month to $99.99 a month, and the feature most often moved behind the paywall this year is group chat with more than one character.
How we tested
We opened each product, used the free tier where one existed, and recorded what we could verify ourselves. Prices come from the public pricing page on the date in the table, in the currency each product shows, before any promo.
Three things we deliberately did not do. We did not buy the top tier of all twelve, so cells we could not check say "Not verified" instead of a guess. We did not score voice quality, because that comparison is worthless without paying for every premium tier. And we did not rank on catalogue size, since a platform with a million user-made characters and a product with nineteen written ones are not doing the same job.
We make one of these, so treat our own row as a listing rather than a verdict. The cons section for it is longer than anyone else's for that reason.

What the big roleplay platforms are good at
Character.AI, Janitor AI, SpicyChat and CrushOn are catalogues first and companions second. You browse characters other people wrote, start a chat, and switch when you get bored. Sessions on CrushOn average around 13 minutes, which tells you people are reading, not just poking at it.
The trade is continuity. These are chat threads, not relationships, and nothing is built to remember you across weeks. Character.AI also filters adult content completely and ended open-ended chat for under-18 users on 25 November 2025, so its policy can move again. Janitor AI is free in the sense that you often bring your own model key and pay the model provider instead.
What the girlfriend apps are good at
Candy.ai, DreamGF, Muah and Kupid sell images, video and voice more than conversation. If you want generated pictures of a consistent character, this is the group that does it best, and Candy.ai accepts crypto as well as cards.
The rankings you find elsewhere are bought, though. Affiliate traffic is 57% of Candy.ai's visits, and its affiliate program pays 40% for life or $30 per sale, so a listicle that puts it at number one is telling you about commissions, not quality. Kupid has a different problem: 2.6 on Trustpilot, mostly over billing, and a $12.99 weekly plan that costs more in two months than most annual plans cost in a year.
What the companion apps are good at
Replika, Nomi and Kindroid are built around one persistent character rather than a catalogue, and it shows in the depth of the relationship. Nomi runs up to 10 group chats of 10 companions each, and gives every group its own backstory. Kindroid caps a group at 10 Kins. Both keep the feature on the paid tier.
Replika is the cautionary tale. It stripped romantic roleplay out of existing relationships in February 2023 after the Italian regulator stepped in, and paid a €5M fine in April 2025. Kindroid's price rises created a steady stream of people searching for alternatives.
Memory is the reason people stay, so look at how it is wired. Nomi's wiki says a group chat keeps its own backstory, separate from your one-to-one memory, and a companion does not see another one's private history unless you copy it across. Nobody else here publishes that much detail. It still does not fix the oldest complaint in the category, which review roundups record as some version of "she forgot" or "she broke character".
Where Emberia fits, and where it does not
Emberia is a Telegram bot with 19 written characters and 6 duo scenes, free to start at 30 messages a day, with memory on the free tier and 1 duo scene a day included. Nothing else in this table gives you a second character in the same thread without paying.
The honest cons:
- Telegram bots cannot place live voice calls. Voice arrives as voice notes. Muah sells actual calls, we do not.
- There is no web app and no iOS or Android app yet. If Telegram is not on your phone, this is not for you today.
- You cannot build a character from scratch. You pick from a written roster and rename her. Janitor AI has millions of user-made cards, we have 19 plus duos.
- No video generation.
- Payment is Telegram Stars, and Stars cost more when bought inside the iOS app than on desktop.

Before you hand over a card, check whether the product will export or delete your chats. Months of history are worth something, and not every app gives them back. Then search the brand name with the word refund attached. For more than one company here, that is a top search term.
